MyAfib is a digital platform designed to help people like you manage their atrial fibrillation.

MyAfib helps you track your symptoms, triggers, treatments, and self-management habits. You can discover patterns in your own journey, gain insights by comparing your experience to that of others, and make more informed decisions about your health.

At the same time, MyAfib is a citizen science platform. Developed together with academic researchers and health professionals, MyAfib’s ultimate goal is to improve Afib management. If you choose to share your anonymized, aggregated data with our research team, you will contribute to groundbreaking discoveries that can help scientists understand how Afib affects different people’s daily lives and how to improve future treatments.

Our mission? To put you in control of your Afib.

MyAfib is for anyone living with atrial fibrillation, whether you’ve just been diagnosed or have been managing this condition for years. It’s also for caregivers, loved ones and healthcare providers who want a better understanding of the lived experience of Afib and support those affected.

Everyone is welcome to share, connect and learn.

MyAfib was created to bridge a gap in Afib management. Traditional treatments don’t work the same for everyone. The daily, lived experience of people living with this condition is often overlooked in conventional research about Afib, which mostly takes a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.

MyAfib takes a holistic and personalized approach to Afib care.

How do we do that?

  • By providing clear, evidence-based information to help people better understand Afib. As a MyAfib member, you always have access to the latest Afib research and insights.
  • By offering a personal dashboard that helps users track their symptoms, identify triggers, and monitor progress over time.
  • By making it easy to share personal health data with cardiologists and other healthcare providers. We want to improve communication and help support more informed treatment decisions.
  • By inviting individuals to participate in research, because we believe that your experiences can help shape the future of Afib management. At MyAfib, we empower you to use your own health journey as a valuable source of insight — not just for you, but for the entire Afib community.

At MyAfib, we believe in:

The power of lived experience

Real-life experience is essential to understanding Afib and improving care.

Empowerment through community and collaboration

We’re stronger together. We’re building a supportive and well-informed community by connecting people with lived experience of Afib with researchers and caregivers.

Personalization instead of ‘one-size-fits-all’

Everyone is different. We believe in personalized Afib management and overall care that is tailored to your unique needs.

Trust & transparency

You are in control. You decide what you share, when you share, and with whom you share your experiences.

Equal access to knowledge

We think that everyone deserves to truly understand their health. That’s why MyAfib is free, inclusive and designed to be easy to use. As a MyAfib member, you always have access to the latest Afib research and insights.

As a member of MyAfib, you get access to a personalized dashboard designed to help you log your experiences, track your progress and take control of your Afib. You can:

Track your Afib

Log and track your symptoms, triggers, treatments, and self-management strategies to discover personal patterns.

Get insights

Reflect on your own data and compare your experience with others in the community.

Collaborate with researchers to improve the future of Afib care by sharing your experiences.

Stay informed

Read the latest studies from peer-reviewed journals to stay up to date on the newest developments in Afib care. You get unlimited access to a personalized learning environment with recommended studies that are tailored to your specific situation.

You can share as much or as little as you want. You’re always in control.

Currently, MyAfib does not generate profit from this platform in the traditional sense. We do not place advertisements or sell your data to third parties. We are an independent, objective research organization that is committed to improving Afib management.

However, to sustain our mission and maximize our impact, we charge a fee to the research organizations, hospitals, companies and independent researchers who wish to access our anonymized, aggregated datasets — but only with your permission. Our goal is not to restrict access to data, but to responsibly make it available for scientific discovery. Transparency and the ethical use of data are at the core of everything we do.

We are part of the international CIRCULAR-consortium, an organization that conducts interdisciplinary research on personalized Afib management and care.

This citizen science project is led by Professor Dr. Bianca Brundel and funded by the NWA-ORC program of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). It aims to unravel the underlying triggers of Afib, develop innovative diagnostic tools, and pioneer new therapeutic strategies — all while putting the individual and their unique experiences at the centre of the research.

To achieve this goal, CIRCULAR collaborates with renowned researchers and institutions around the world, such as StopAfib, The University of Amsterdam, Erasmus MC, and The Netherlands Heart Institute.

Our research team aims to stop Afib by using a holistic approach. At the heart of this approach is co-creation with people living with Afib to create scientific breakthroughs, such as uncovering the underlying mechanisms driving Afib, and societal breakthroughs in personalized therapy and diagnostic development.

Through citizen science – collaborating closely with people that have lived experience of Afib – we have already identified five major triggers for Afib. Together with people with lived experience of Afib, researchers, and health professionals, our research team aims to further explore these triggers.

Moreover, our experimental research aims to build the molecular human Afib atlas, a detailed map of the biological processes involved in Afib. This atlas serves as a foundation for new treatment discovery and biomarker research. Through co-creation with patients, we can test these new treatments in clinical trials that reflect the realities of daily life with Afib.

What kind of research does MyAfib do?

Citizen science means science with people — not just about people. Citizen science invites people from outside of traditional research institutions to actively participate in the scientific process. In the context of MyAfib, citizen science means real-world collaboration with people that have lived experience of Afib.

By sharing your experiences about symptoms, triggers, treatments and self-management, community members like you help shape the direction of future research. This inclusive research model aligns with co-creative citizen science, where people are involved at every stage of the scientific process; from asking the right questions to interpreting the results.

Thanks to this approach, our community has already helped identify five major triggers for Afib. By weaving lived experience into lab analysis, we are:

  • Building a molecular human Afib Atlas – mapping the biological processes behind Afib using real human tissue samples.
  • Advancing treatment discovery – identifying new treatment targets aligned with daily life experiences.
  • Driving biomarker research – searching for signals to detect Afib earlier, monitor progression, or predict treatment response.
  • Designing personalized clinical trials – studies that reflect the diversity of real-life experiences.

Yes, you can use MyAfib without contributing to research. In the future, you’ll be able to use MyAfib to track your symptoms, triggers, treatments and habits and compare your experiences with others in the community without sharing the data with our researchers.

Because it will improve your life and our understanding of nuances in treatment effectiveness, underlying causes, mechanisms and triggers that can vary per person. Therefore, your insights are crucial.
